This programme is held in Hungarian.

Since its opening, the House of Music has considered it its mission to present the musical life of Hungarian cities outside the capital. The next location in the “City in the House” series is Sopron. The festival showcasing the musical life of “the most faithful Hungarian city” will take place in the spirit of the diversity characteristic of the House of Music, and is organized jointly by the House of Music and the city of Sopron. On the first day of the festival, Saturday, the Petőfi Band, the band of the artists of the Sopron Petőfi Theatre, will make their debut, and there will be a concert by Sonny, who was born in Sopron, and who with his band Sonny and His Wild Cows will evoke the America of the 1940s and 1950s – rockabilly, rhythm and blues. On Sunday, the Fajkusz Banda, Sopron’s renowned folk music band, will perform. Before that, there will be Sunday Music, a chamber concert with a bourgeois atmosphere featuring musicians who are marrying into / out of Sopron: pianist László Legendy and violinist Eszter Lesták‑Bedő, as well as members of the Wespa Quartett. Meanwhile, in the Club Library there will be a “Record Spinner” session of recordings by the Sopron Liszt Ferenc Symphony Orchestra, including works by composers from Sopron (József Soproni, Jenő Takács, Sándor Szokolay), and there will also be a pop‑up exhibition of panels by Sándor Szokolay.

The Fajkusz Banda have been playing together in Sopron since 2004, and during this time they have held countless concerts and dance houses, and have contributed to a great many folk dance performances. Their album Anno was released in 2009, and last year, on the occasion of their twentieth anniversary, they made an album titled “Van még egy huszasom…” (“I’ve Still Got a Twenty…”) that summarizes their work so far and offers an insight into their repertoire and musical style. “The pieces performed at the concert are authentic and arranged folk music, and we are linked by a lot of joint work with the contributing musicians, who are our former students; with their musical knowledge and high standards they enrich the productions.”

Since the opening of the House of Music, it has also been part of our mission to present the musical life of Hungarian cities, and it is with this aim that our “City in the House” series was created. Within this framework, cities outside the capital with rich musical and cultural life such as Szeged, Pécs, Székesfehérvár, Veszprém, and Debrecen have already presented their diverse musical life, outstanding ensembles, arts festivals and emerging talents in a colorful cavalcade of programs. The “City in the House” series embodies the House’s mission undertaking: in the Szeged program selection, genre diversity and educational content appear side by side, while also giving future talents the opportunity to present themselves.
