Mammal Hands (UK)

Mini jazz festival at the House of Music on April 16-17! New jazz on the horizon – Two days of jazz at the House is primarily aimed at jazz fans, but we also cater to all music lovers in general, with two of the genre's contemporary heavyweights – the British trio Mammal Hands and the Brazilian Amaro Freitas – performing on consecutive days. Mammal Hands, one of the most popular trios of the past decade, is signed to Gondwana Records, one of the most important labels in 21st-century British jazz, founded by trumpeter Matthew Halsall. With its minimalist sound and hypnotic compositions, the saxophone-piano-drums formation is a defining force on the contemporary jazz scene. After their debut in Hungary in 2024, the trio will return to our country while working on their new album, this time for a standing concert. Of course, you'll still have to hurry to buy tickets, as seating is limited.

Mammal Hands' chamber jazz is defined by a minimalist approach (Michael Nyman is a good reference point) and an ambient, ECM-style contemporary sound. They have released five strong and well-received albums to date, with a sixth on the way, which will also be featured at their concert at the House of Music. The trio, built around the Smart brothers, is characterized by an ethereal, pastoral, peaceful sound. Keyboardist Nick Smart and saxophonist Jordan Smart also have a great progressive electronic side project called Sunda Arc, but their renowned label also features other well-known names in Hungary (who have also performed at the House of Music with Svaneborg Kardybbal, Matthew Halsall, GoGo Penguin, Portico Quartet, and pianist Hania Rani). Their unique sound has influenced such influential tastemakers as Bonobo, Jamie Cullum, and Gilles Peterson. Their live performances are intense and captivating, but many people in Hungary already know this – it's not worth missing out on.
