F. W. Murnau: The Last Laugh (1924)
The Last Laugh is a timeless classic in film history: the story of a hotel doorman who, in his old age, is demoted to washroom attendant, and whom the humiliation destroys, since along with his splendid uniform he feels he has also lost the meaning of his life. Legendary director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau – together with his equally important collaborators, screenwriter Carl Mayer, cinematographer Karl Freund and lead actor Emil Jannings – brings the heartrending story to life without intertitles, using only images and editing. The bustling life of the hotel, the old doorman’s drunken scene, the montage of gossiping women, the contrast between the grey suburbs and the hotel’s glittering building come alive in unforgettable sequences, which this time we can watch accompanied by the improvisations of the Váczi Dániel Glissonic Trio on the Open-Air Stage of the House of Music.
Covered Open-air Stage concerts
The program will be held even in rainy weather, as the Open-air Stage is largely covered.
