Robinson Khoury – MŸA (FRA)
Frenchman Robinson Khoury is a versatile trombonist and composer who is very popular among young musicians in his home country. He is currently touring with his own band and the group Sarāb, but has also performed as a soloist with the Metropole Orkest and played with renowned artists such as Lew Soloff, Mark Turner, and Ibrahim Maalouf. In July 2019, he also appeared on stage as a member of the Quincy Jones Orchestra. His first two solo albums were released in 2019 and 2022. With his latest trio, MŸA, the trombonist embarks on a musical journey in search of the organic origins of life: through electro-acoustic landscapes, he explores ancient rhythms and sounds, which are also shaped by a modular synthesizer – in addition to Khoury, the formation includes a percussionist and a keyboardist. Rooted in jazz and Middle Eastern scales, the MŸA project focuses on the wordless singing of the band members. The nu-jazz, Arabic jazz debut album was released in 2024 and features singer Natacha Atlas. In March 2025, Khoury received the most prestigious French jazz award, the Django Reinhardt Prize, in the category of Jazz Musician of the Year.
