Tales on Strings with the Mendelsshon Chamber Orchestra

The Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra presents the latest HUNGAROTON album concert.

Throughout music history, many great composers have pondered how to make the world of music accessible to the youngest age group. They composed works that are not only technically suitable for learning an instrument but also musically of high standard—allowing children to learn the intricacies of music through genuine artistic experiences.

During the evening, two such special works—originally composed for piano—will be performed by the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, arranged by Péter Kováts, the orchestra’s artistic director.

A visual projection will complement the concert experience by incorporating visual arts, making it easier to capture the individual characters, moods, and scenes among the many small movements.

Georges Bizet: Children's Games—in this charming and elegant piece, the composer masterfully evokes the world of childhood: toys, scenes, and moments. This cycle is one of the earliest examples of how childhood depiction appeared in French music—a precursor to similar moods in Debussy and Ravel’s later works.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Children's Album—the 24-piece piano cycle portrays the emotions and experiences of childhood, as well as folk-inspired scenes and dances. The pieces not only serve educational purposes, but also stand alone as expressive miniatures on the concert stage.

GEORGES BIZET:
Children's Games WD 56 (arranged by Péter Kováts)

PYOTR TCHAIKOVSKY:
Children's Album Op. 39 (arranged by Péter Kováts)

Artistic Director: PÉTER KOVÁTS
