This programme is held in Hungarian.
In support of the House of Music Hungary’s mission, the Fringe program launched in 2024 offers performance opportunities at various locations in the House for emerging musicians and hobby bands at the beginning of their careers, as well as street musicians, music schools and music workshops. In the Take the Stage! series, talented, up-and-coming musicians and hobby music formations at the beginning of their careers perform in every summer season, and one of them is awarded and given a new performance opportunity in the following season.
The awardee of the 2025 Take the Stage! is Alacalufe Band.
Alacalufe is a musical ensemble dedicated to preserving, celebrating and sharing the rich diversity of traditional Latin American music. Their vibrant repertoire guides the listener through the continent’s most characteristic rhythms, making each concert a sonic journey that connects cultures, eras and geographic regions.
Their artistic concept is rooted in the musical origins of Latin America, blending genres such as merengue, samba, festejo, cumbia, mambo and cha cha cha, among others, to create an authentic and energetic performance. This fusion of styles is not only entertaining but also a tribute to the traditions that have shaped the region’s popular music.
The ensemble uses traditional instruments – such as conga, maracas, Peruvian cajón, güira and acoustic guitar – alongside elements that evoke the sound of the great Latin bands of the 1950s, like the saxophone, electric guitar and bass guitar, in order to create an even richer soundscape.
Alacalufe’s music is a call to celebrate Latin America’s diverse and warm-hearted identity. Each performance is crafted as an experience, so that both discerning audiences and new listeners alike feel welcome to dance, connect, and become part of the continent’s living culture.
