The Budapest Afro Ska Orchestra was formed by young musicians whose music is nourished by the instinct-sustaining pulse of Africa and the playfulness of improvisation. They mix afrobeat, ska, and funk with strong live-music energy. At the center of their sound lies danceable, groove-oriented afrobeat with plenty of brass and improvisational parts. They draw inspiration from the legacy of performers such as afrobeat founder Fela Kuti and Jamaican ska legend The Skatalites. In their concerts, they seek and convey that kind of lightness that can bring a smile to the listener’s face and inspire carefree dancing, while also giving space for deeper immersion in the sounds. Building on traditions yet striving for freshness, their sound aims to reach not only their own generation but every open-minded generation. In addition to their own songs, they also perform classics and cover versions.
