The Versatile Bassoon – From Tallis to Piazzolla
This programme is held in Hungarian.
György Lakatos, bassoonist, and his students from the Academy of Music will give a concert featuring an extraordinary line-up on the Open-Air Stage of the House of Music: no fewer than seven (!) bassoons – a total of seventeen metres – made of mountain maple, bearing one hundred and seventy keys, three and a half octaves, many thousands of notes from the Renaissance to the twentieth century, in three to six parts. This can only be colourful!
György Lakatos graduated from the Liszt Academy in 1987, where he has since been teaching as an associate professor; in addition, he has been principal bassoonist of the Hungarian State Opera and the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra since 1985. In 1987 he was voted Artist of the Year at the Opera House, and the following year he won first prize at the Hungarian Radio Bassoon Competition. Between 1993 and 1997 he was awarded the Artisjus Prize four times for his interpretation of contemporary Hungarian compositions. In 1996 he received the Liszt Prize, and the following year he was an Eötvös Scholarship holder in Paris. Numerous recordings have been released featuring him both as a soloist and a chamber musician. He has performed, competed, or taught in almost every country in Europe, and has also toured in America and Israel.
