Afrocuban melodies and rhythyms with Guillermo Macsotay and Angel 'Chino' Cruz
Afrocuban melodies and rhythyms with Guillermo Macsotay and Angel 'Chino' Cruz
This programme is held in Hungarian.
Macsotay Guillermo comes from Venezuela, but speaks Hungarian excellently. He is a musician skilled in multiple instruments — bass guitar, classical and electric guitar, as well as smaller percussion instruments — whose play is sensitive, rhythmically rich, and always open to Afro-Caribbean musical traditions. Angel Miguel León Cruz hails from Cuba and is a master on all types of percussion instruments — conga, bongo, timbales, maracas, and many others — with fine technique and deep rhythmic knowledge.
At this Latin music workshop, Guillermo and Chino invite you on an exciting musical journey: we will review the basics of Latin rhythms, introduce the origin and functioning of the clave, and delve deeper into the world of Afro-Cuban music. We will also talk about styles such as son, guaguancó, bomba, plena, merengue, and cumbia. Our goal is for you to not only listen, but to feel and play as well — to understand how these rhythms are constructed, how drums and guitar/bass intertwine, and how you can join in — whether you are a beginner or an experienced musician.
A new series entitled World Village+ is launching at the House of Music, which, as a companion to Balázs Weyer's educational music series World Village, focuses on playing music together in a workshop format.
