On the occasion of the anniversary of the revolution of 23 October 1956, we are bringing you a special quiz. For one evening, the quiz series titled “Damn, I Knew That!” from the Pop Culture Club Library will move to the Concert Hall, and its theme will be the musical world of the Hungarian People’s Republic.
Musicians (and of course practitioners of other branches of art are no exception either) often deal with social issues, and accordingly criticism of the system regularly appears in the songs of a given era. It was no different in Hungary during the Rákosi and Kádár eras, which also gives the quiz night its title: Rebellious Songs. In any case, while we highlight the anti‑system musical expressions of the period, it won’t be only about rebellion; we aim to present a broader picture of the musical life of Hungary’s socialist era. For instance, do you know which was the first Hungarian rock & roll song released on record? Who played when and in which bands? What unforgettable hits were created under socialism, which musical trends started or disappeared, and how exactly did the “supported–tolerated–banned” triad characterize the music industry? These are the kinds of questions we will be looking for answers to, and members of the winning team can each win a 3000 HUF voucher for events at the House of Music.

Tickets for the event are group tickets and entitle up to 5 people to enter.

Just for you and music gurus like ourselves, we have created the Dammit, I Knew That! quiz series, held in the Pop Culture Club Library of the House of Music, Hungary.
