Looking for ever-young music? Listen to Mozart! He was celebrated as a miracle already in his childhood, and his works still feel fresh and powerful today. His operas, symphonies and concertos are at once playful and deeply human. His music forms a bridge between past and present; he is not only an icon of classical music, but also a symbol of eternal creativity. Let us celebrate him by listening to his works! The 270th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is an excellent opportunity to rediscover one of the greatest geniuses of music.
The 270th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is not only a commemoration, but also a rediscovery. Already in his childhood he travelled throughout Europe, playing for rulers and aristocrats, while his father, Leopold Mozart, carefully paved his way. His connections both helped and restricted him: patrons supported him, yet he often struggled with financial difficulties. He found his true voice in Vienna, where he was counted among the greatest composers of his time. His operas, such as The Marriage of Figaro or Don Giovanni, were innovative not only in music but also in the portrayal of human characters. Among his symphonies, the last three belong to the pinnacles of musical literature, full of energy and emotion. His piano concertos elevated the dialogue between soloist and orchestra to a new level. In his string quartets, the intimate, almost conversational world of chamber music appears. Mozart’s music is at once light and profound, as if playfulness and tragedy were in constant dialogue. His life is surrounded by peculiar stories as well: the creation of the Requiem remains mystical to this day, as if the composer had written his own fate into it. Despite his short life, he left behind more than six hundred works, and although his contemporaries admired him, they did not fully understand his genius. In every era his music gains new meaning and is always able to reach the listener. His legacy lives on today in concert halls, films, and our everyday musical experiences. Let us recall the milestones of a remarkable life! Mozart’s music, Advent atmosphere, wonderful stories, and the person who provides all this: Dóra Tápai, conductor, secondary school music teacher, and music educator at the House of Hungarian Music.
