From Gyergyó
Dance
Szervezés:
This programme is held in Hungarian.
The performance From Gyergyó – Sounds, Dances, Stories places Gyergyó’s rich and still vibrant musical, dance and spiritual heritage at its center. The aim of the evening is to give audiences at the House of Hungarian Music the chance to encounter this unique culture through the interpretation of artists and tradition-bearers for whom experiencing, preserving and passing it on is a personal commitment and an everyday experience.
One of the performance’s defining ideas is the meeting of tradition-bearers and professional artists. Representatives of different generations appear side by side on stage, showing how Gyergyó’s traditions live on in song, instrumental music, dance and storytelling. The evening seeks not only to evoke this heritage, but also to emphasize its continuity and its relevance today.
The musical performers are Attila Mihó, Dániel Szabó, Orsolya András, Zsombor Tulipán, Edina Csüllög. The performance features András Berecz, Kossuth Prize-winning singer and storyteller, who weaves together the evening’s different musical and dance elements through his songs, stories and spoken-word performances.
Gyergyó’s dance traditions are represented by Tamás Farkas and Ágnes Farkas, Szabolcs Bara and Tünde Bara, Roland Gidró and Lilla Szoboszlai-Kálmán, Sándor Szvinyuk and Kincső Szabó, Norbert Portik and Rebeka Abonyi, Péter Portik Dobos and Márta Portik Dobos, Antal György and Mária György, Lénárd Laczkó and Mária Laczkó, as well as Sándor Ferencz and Ágnes Ferencz and Demeter Vizoli .
In the program, music, song, dance and live storytelling complement one another to paint a picture of Gyergyó’s cultural identity. The performers’ individual styles, the tradition-bearers’ personal knowledge and the professional artists’ stage presence together create a connection between past and present, heritage and its transmission.
